Part 2 Corrections

Feel free to raise additional points in the comments.

  • The total number of top ten hits from 2001 – 2010 that are sequels, remakes and adaptations is actually 76, not 74. The two I miscounted were Night at the Museum, which was adapted from a book, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which was adpted from a 1996 TV show. (Thanks Brad and Brett.)
  • My wording suggests that “Sorry About Colonialism” ┬áis a science-fiction subgenre, when it is actually a subgenre of adventure films. (Thanks Danno.)

Samples, References, Transcript :: View on YouTube or Blip.tv :: Download in Ogg Theora format

  • The opening music is “Samurai Theme” by RZA, which I think is only available on this Japanese CD. It’s from the film Ghost Dog.
  • The closing credits music is Beethoven’s 7th.

This is a transcript for the video Everything is a Remix Part 2.

Perhaps it’s because movies are so massively expensive to make. Perhaps it’s because graphic novels, TV shows, video games, books and the like are such rich sources of material. Of the ten highest grossing films per year from the last ten years, 74 out of 100 are either sequels or remakes of earlier films or adaptations of comic books, video games, books, and so on. Transforming the old … Continue Reading
